PSW? HCW? A rose by any other name would smell as sweet!

27/08/2013

Shakespeare once wrote “What’s in a name? That which we call a rose by any other name would smell as sweet”

Across the years and across the country the name we use to refer to an incredible group of unsung heroes changes.

Titles include: Personal Support Worker, Resident Care Assistant, Home Support Worker, Community Health Worker, Health Care Aide, and Health Care Assistant.

For the past few years I have chosen to use the generic “Health Care Worker”.  Based on the number of Personal Support Workers that we have using our resources, I will strive to make a change and use the title “Personal Support Worker”.

If you come to this site as a “Health Care Assistant” or a “Health Care Aide” please know that your contribution is equally esteemed and valued!

And remember, that a rose by any other name still smells like a rose!  And a Personal Support Worker by any other name is still the unsung hero of the health care team!
