Dr. Bernard Lapointe – Euthanasia and Physician Assisted Suicide

17/09/2011

Dr Bernard Lapointe spoke at the CHPCA conference on advocacy.  He used the Quebec experience with Bill C384 An Act to amend the Criminal Code (right to die with dignity) regarding Euthanasia and Physician Assisted Suicide. His presentation was followed by Sharon Baxter, ED for CHPCA.

Sharon summarized her key concerns:

  1. Before legalizing either procedure, we need to ensure that all Canadians have access to good Hospice Palliative Care!
  2. If the time comes that either Euthanasia or Assisted Suicide are legalized, then we need to ensure: Hospice and Palliative Care services will still be available, and Hospice Palliative Care will not be pushed to provide either Euthanasia or Physician Assisted Suicide.

Dr Lapointes presentation will be available on the CHPCA website.
