Congratulations to the 2024 CHPCA Lifetime Achievement Award winner!

It has been my honour to work with Jeanne Weis. Wow! Such an incredible person, and such great contributions she has made and continues to make to HPC and to Nursing!

In about 2018 I met Jeanne. At that time she was a former palliative care nurse, currently working for the College of LPNs of Alberta (CLPNA). CLPNA “gifted” Jeanne to Life and Death Matters to help us write the text, “Essentials in Hospice and Palliative Care: A Practical Resource for Every Nurse”. Jeanne became involved with the CHPCA Nurses Group, eventually becoming the incoming president. Together with Julia Johnson, she led the organizing of the Canadian Palliative Care Nursing Association, CPCNA (link). CPCNA is dedicated to support hospice and palliative care nurses across Canada. (Check it out!) Thanks Jeanne and Julia! We could not have done it without you! Today Jeanne is the CEO and Registrar for CLPNA, she continues to be involved with hospice as a volunteer.

Jeanne began her career as a Health Care Aide and has over 24 years experience as a professional nurse, holding specialization in palliative care. As a palliative nurse, Jeanne nursed in tertiary care, case management, community care, oncology, research, education, and leadership. Jeanne’s knowledge of governance was integral in launching the CPCNA where she served with the board until 2021. Jeanne has led significant nursing initiatives at a local, provincial, national, and international level that have contributed to supporting competent nursing practice, research, education, and regulation.

Despite her many achievements, Jeanne remains humble and steadfast in her commitment to advancing palliative care. We thank Jeanne for her dedication and wisdom.  She is truly an inspiration to all and well-deserved recipient of the CPCNA Lifetime Achievement Award.
