Excellent teachers… Wendy Kurchak is a fine example

07/06/2012

Wendy Kurchak just finished facilitating LDM online course “Walking and Talking with Kids about Death and Dying”.  As I followed the course, I was reminded of Parker Palmer’s inspiring book “The Courage to Teach” (A must read for all educators). He suggests that the role of the teacher is to connect, connect with the students, connect the students with the content, help them weave together their experience with theory.  Teaching, excellent teaching, can help the learner to find clarity.

Wendy, a retired high school guidance counsellor, and Certified Thanatologist, does a fine job of weaving together theory with practical application, providing feedback for students and then giving them extra suggestions for places to find out more on the topics they are interested in.  Thank you Wendy for teaching with LDM Online, and for the work you do in Grief Education in Alberta.

(will teach the course again next year, so those who want to put their name down to be reminded when it starts, please send me an email or respond to this email.)
