From Left to Right – Courtney Murrell, Myke, Dyer, Matthew Hicks

Courtney is a passionate advocate for those needing and receiving compassionate, whole person centered care.  Every single day she strives to provide the softest journey possible from admission to Hospice through to the end of the disease process. Courtney is often told that she is known for her kind and caring personality and for the encouragement and overall support that she gives to others. Courtney loves to learn and share knowledge with others about palliative care, including new staff at her workplace and with college students finishing their PSW placement hours. Courtney loves spending time with her family and dog, writing poetry, and studying mindfulness—some of her favourite ways to practice self care.

Myke has dedicated the past ten years to hospice palliative care as a Personal Support Worker. He currently serves at Hospice Georgian Triangle in Collingwood while residing in the rural village of Clarksburg. Known for his calming presence, Myke advocates strongly for both patients and peers, taking pride in the daily support he provides to individuals and their families in a residential hospice.

Matt Hicks was born in a small nickel mining town in Northern Canada, His early life was shaped by a love of family, skiing, and snow. A ski racing injury at 16 led to a long and difficult battle with addiction—one that spanned over a decade and brought profound loss, including the death of a close friend. Through recovery, Matt discovered a deep sense of compassion and purpose, inspired in part by his mother, a devoted healthcare worker known for her kindness and strength. Following in her footsteps, Matt found meaning and healing in caring for others. Now a PSW, Matt is committed to guiding new healthcare advocates and reminding them that this work is more than a job—it’s a way of life. He lives by the principles of staying humble, teachable, and useful, and believes no one should die alone. His journey is a testament to resilience, and his work continues to be rooted in empathy, purpose, and human connection.
