A Message for PSW/NA Instructors

18/03/2015

Dear Instructors,

Our mission is to create resources that help front-line caregivers, including Personal Support Workers (also known as Health Care Assistants, Nursing Assistants and Hospice Aides), provide excellent care for the dying person and their family.

We know that many frontline caregivers will receive their education through courses and classes that you teach!

My goal was to develop teaching resources that would be helpful for you.

To provide you with an instructor’s guide that links the national and provincial education standards pertaining to hospice palliative and end-of-life care with lesson plans making full use of the textbook, workbook, along with the videos, podcasts and PPT teaching presentations (with lecture notes). For PSW/HCQ educators, the Instructors Guide ties all of these resources together, providing lesson plans, references, and ideas for further study.

Whether you would prefer to teach this palliative care education as a separate module, or whether you’d like to intersperse the material throughout your current curriculum, the choice is yours.

If you are new to hospice palliative care then I hope that the website, newsletter, videos and podcasts will provide you with a foundation of understanding and help you to teach the essentials.

If you are an experienced hospice palliative care nurse, I hope that the materials will reinforce what you know, and help you focus your classes for students to learn from your rich experience.

We hope to hear from you. We look forward to hearing from you. Please do drop us a note and let us know how teaching with these materials will be of help to you.

Warm regards,
Kath
