In the safe space of this webinar, Valerie Cooper will share a definition of MAID, discuss eligibility criteria for MAID in Canada, describe the process of providing and receiving MAID and define conscientious objection. Following the presentation, Valerie will respond to your questions about MAID.

Valerie Cooper is a hospice palliative care nurse practitioner and a member of Canada’s Dying with Dignity Clinician Advisory Council.

About Valerie Cooper

Valerie provides palliative care for people living and dying with life-limiting illnesses in the Kingston, Ontario area. She has thoroughly explored issues related to MAID and is a member of Canada’s Dying with Dignity Clinician Advisory Council. Valerie is also involved in teaching about palliative care for nurses and nurse practitioners and is a member of many Communities of Practice and organizations related to palliative care, end-of-life care, and Medical Assistance in Dying (MAID).

  1. looking to register to round out knowledge and potential liability questions. Also, how to deal with family objections to someone choosing to move forward with MAID.
    Does the death certificate record the death as a suicide? How to handle presenting that information to the church if they want to be buried in a Catholic ceremony?
